Faith Formation Program Descriptions

For Adults:

Bible Study—Meet with a small group  to break open the Word together.  More information here.

Why Catholic—Journey in faith with others through the Why Catholic? small group faith-sharing process.  Participants will work with the book, “Profession of Faith: What We Believe” in the fall, and The Celebration of the Christian Mystery: The Sacraments” in the spring.  More information here.

Speaker/Discussion—Held at the Mary Center on Wednesday nights, topical workshops will be offered periodically throughout the year.

RCIA—RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.  If you’re interested in becoming Catholic, contact the parish office (251-8335). Parish staff will call and assist you in learning about Catholicism so that you can become a full member of the Catholic Church.

Faith Formation Leadership—Explore your call to discipleship by serving as a catechist for children or youth, a Confirmation mentor, a faith formation committee member or a facilitator for adult Bible Study or Why Catholic?.  Indicate your interest or participation by checking the appropriate box on the faith formation registration form or  by calling the parish office at 251-8335.

For Youth:

Faith Formation—Study beliefs and teachings of Catholicism in a small group two-three times per month.

Youth Group—St. Augustine’s Youth (SAY) & Cathedral of St. Mary's Youth Groups meet the third Wednesday of the month during the school year.  Check the box for “Youth Group” to receive more information about Youth Group.

Confirmation—Saint Augustine’s uses a mentoring process for Confirmation preparation. The candidate chooses a mentor whom he or she respects and admires as a direct representative of the church, and both candidate and mentor enter a faith journey together, sharing their faith in Christ with each other on a regular basis. All candidates and their mentors attend faith formation sessions on Wed 1, and complete a second monthly activity on their own.

For Children:

Childcare—In order to allow families to attend faith formation together, childcare is offered for all children younger than first grade during Wednesday night activities and on Sunday mornings during Sunday School.

Sunday School—3-4-and-5-year olds are invited to learn about their faith during 9:15 AM Masses most Sundays from September through May.

New! Early Childhood Parent/Child Faith Formation—Held at the Mary Center, parents and their children aged birth-5 gather  weekly for circle time, free play, and parent/child separation time.  Children will learn about their faith through age-appropriate play, songs and stories while adults learn about Christian parenting.

First Sacrament Preparation—Second graders prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion through additional sessions at St. Augustine’s and through home study within their families.  Older students and adults may also prepare for these sacraments if they haven’t received them.  Simply check the “First Reconciliation” and/or “First Communion” boxes on your registration form and parish staff will contact you to set up a preparation process for your family.

Faith Formation—Study beliefs and teachings of Catholicism in a small group three-four times per month.
