Stations of the Cross

The children of St. Augustine's and St. Mary's Cathedral School walked through "real-life" stations this Tuesday.  Each station connected Jesus' journey with objects and places the students see every day.

Station 1: Jesus is condemned to die.

We walk to a tree reminding us of the tree used for Christ's crucifixion.

Station 2: Jesus takes up His cross

We walk to a cross and learn about the heaviness of a cross and our sins.

Station 3: Jesus falls for the first time

We stand on the ramp entering the school, remembering people who cannot walk.  Jesus helps us carry our burdens.

Hail Mary!

Station 4: Jesus meets Mary, his Mother

We gather around the playground where mothers play with their children.  We think about Mary and Jesus.

Station 5: Simon helps Jesus carry his cross

Being by the church helps us remember that we have a community to help us carry our burdens, just as Simon did for Jesus.

Station 6: Veronica wipes Jesus' face

We stand by the baptismal font to remember that just as Jesus was refreshed by Veronica's touch, so are we refreshed by our  baptism.

Station 7: Jesus falls a second time

We look over the worksite by our school and see that it would hurt if we tripped and fell in the work zone.  We think about Jesus falling.
