And He sent them to preach the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Luke 9:2

Health Ministries

Parish Nursing is a unique blend of nursing and ministry. The Parish Nurse ministers to the “whole” person using health education and spiritual maturity to promote wellness of mind , body and spirit. The focus of parish nursing is prevention and health promotion vs. “hands on” physical care. Parish nursing is not a substitute for pastoral care, medical care, community health nursing and social agencies, but rather works in collaborative relationship with these disciplines.

As a member of the parish staff, the parish nurse has an office located in the office building and is available during scheduled office hours.

EXAMPLES OF HEALTH MINISTRY ACTIVITIES

• Offers emotional and spiritual support to bereaved individuals and families.

• Coordinates activities such as health  & prevention classes, health screenings and blood mobile.

• Assist in obtaining needed health services by making appropriate referral to community agencies.

• Develops support groups, i.e.  grief-loss, overcoming overeating.

• Facilitate communal  celebration of Anointing of the Sick.
Serves as an authentic witness to the healing power of Jesus Christ
